Rayleigh Heritage Trail

Police Station

Police Station On this site stood 'Peverils', a farmhouse during the 18th and 19th centuries.

In 1830, James Ewen, a farmhand was found guilty of firing a barn and was hanged at Springfield Gaol in Chelmsford.

Peverils was the earliest of three Police Stations. The first Police Station in Rayleigh was situated in a room behind where the Palmers Solicitors are today at the corner of Eastwood Road and the High Street.
