Rayleigh
Through the Looking Glass
November 2011 Update -
After 2 years of planning and fund raising a new double sided Heritage Notice Board has been erected in
Rayleigh High Street near the Pelican Crossing opposite the Millennium Clock.
On one side is a map of Rayleigh with details of all the buildings that have a Rayleigh Town Council Heritage Plaque.
The other side has 12 A4 panels with details/photos/location/contact details of all the many other heritage sites in Rayleigh.
(e.g. the Dutch Cottage and Windmill amongst many others)
We hope the information on it will be of interest to both locals and visitors. Please take a look when you are next in town.
We are the organisers and major fund raisers for this Notice Board and spent many hours planning and fund raising.
We were helped by many local groups with the design, including the History Hunters Club from Sweyne Park School.
Funds were raised not only from the slide shows we give on Rayleigh’s history but also from Rayleigh Town Council,
Rayleigh and District Chamber of Trade, the Essex Heritage Trust, Essex County Council’s Big Society Fund,
local businessmen and the residents of a Homeregal.
The Notice Board is already in full use but will be officially unveiled on Friday 18th November at 11am
by Councillor Mrs Peggy Corbett, Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council.
